The Space
A century of brick, still gathering people in
106 S. State Street, downtown Abbeville. Exposed brick, tall windows, high ceilings — and up to 100 standing, or 50 seated.
Est. 1914
The name is on the building
Look up from the sidewalk and you’ll see it: J. Russo, 1914, set into the stepped brick parapet. This building has stood on State Street through more than a century of Abbeville life, and the facade still carries the name it opened with.
Formerly Café on State, the building is being reintroduced as The Russo — a name that was here long before any of us, waiting patiently above the awning.
We didn’t invent the character. We just turned the lights back on.
The Room
Brick, light, and room to breathe
There’s no trying too hard in here. The old brick, tall windows, and high ceilings already give the room plenty of character. During the day it fills with natural light; by evening, the hanging lights warm everything up. Add your tables, flowers, and favorite people, and the room does the rest.
Set it for a shower, a seated dinner, a workshop or a micro wedding — somehow, the room wears them all beautifully.
Make It Yours
A blank canvas that already looks good
You don’t have to fight this room to make it beautiful. The brick, the light and the high ceilings already do most of the work. Keep it simple with a few linens and flowers, or dress the whole room up for something special — it works either way.
Bring your vendors and make it your own, or let The Southern Spread handle the hospitality. Either way, you’re in good hands.
Downtown Abbeville
Right where the town happens
Step outside and you’re in the middle of it. Your guests arrive right in the heart of downtown, surrounded by the string lights, old oaks and courthouse square.
For out-of-towners, it’s a first impression of Abbeville worth making. For locals, it’s the room down the street they’ve always known.
